Upper Grades

Lilliput Kindergarten was developed to meet the educational needs of Children who are ready for a Kindergarten program that is more than play. We found that children who had completed our preschool programs were ready for learning beginning to read skills and higher level math skills.

Using a “Beginning to Read” program, our students learn a phonics approach to reading. The program introduces beginning sounds, ending sounds, short vowels, digraphs, blends and 17 sight words as they learn to blend sounds into words. This beginning program has most children reading and ready for first grade. We also learn to write and spell.

Our math program introduces addition, subtraction, graphing, time, money etc. We begin with hands-on opportunities to learn these skills and grow to the more abstract paper pencil tasks.

Grades One and Two continue to develop reading and math using the state grade level curriculum guidelines. Due to our small student to teacher ratio
( 8:1 ), we are able to go well beyond these levels with most children.

We are also able to develop social studies and science more intensely as our small class size gives us more time for enrichment. Children develop higher level vocabulary and knowledge of our world through these programs.

Music, Art and Physical Education teachers work with the children weekly in both Kindergarten and Grades 1 & 2
