Dear Parents
Dear Parents,
Welcome once again to Lilliput School. We hope you are looking forward to an exciting fall. I know I am
! Lilliput is happy to distribute T-Shirts to all our students this year as 2010 will be our 25th year educating young children. Our school colors of red, white and black will be evident in many places as you visit us this year. See if you can spot them.
We welcome parent Nicole Falcon a former Lilliput student herself who will be sending her daughter to Lilliput Kindergarten this year. How fast time flies!!!! Welcome back Nicole!
This year we are happy to report all our teachers are returning again. We have one new staff member with the addition of our new business manager, my daughter Corinne Sullivan. Corinne has 10 years experience working at Lilliput and at other early childhood centers as a lead teacher. She is also director certified as well as having a degree in Business Management. I am thrilled to have the extra help as no matter how many hours I put in I am never done!
As we start another year, I want to remind you that you are always welcome to drop in or call whenever you have a need. Communication between home and school is one of our top priorities.

WANT TO CONTACT ME?
Anytime you have a question or concern please feel free to contact me. I do visit each classroom every day so if no one answers the phone, leave a message and I will get back to you. You can also contact me via e-mail. I do check it several times a day. My email address is: LilliputECC@verizon.net I am always eager to answer your questions or hear your concerns. One way to make our school better is to listen to the needs of our parents. I am always trying to improve on what we offer and what we do. So if you have some ideas, send me an e-mail or call.
We have our own web site where you can get information, school forms and ideas. You can read our newsletters on line too. Take a peek and let us know what else you would like to see on this site.
Thank you

WE TRY TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR
Due to the fact that Lilliput borders a residential neighborhood, we try our best not to annoy our neighbors. You can help by remembering the following:
- If you park on Wesleyan Street and walk to Lilliput, don’t cut through the neighbors’ yards.
- Help us keep our lines short by following the drop off schedule handed out at Open House
- If you need to conference with your child’s teacher, please call to schedule an appointment rather than trying to conference in the car lines.
We appreciate your thoughtfulness! .

WHY LILLIPUT IS ACADEMICALLY ORIENTED
The National Center for Educational Statistics reported from its longitudinal study of 22,000 children, that youngsters who attended more academically oriented preschool programs had significantly higher scores in reading, math and general knowledge when tested in the fall of their kindergarten year than children attending less academically oriented preschools.
Also, the National Reading Panel found that children as young as four benefited from instruction in phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle when the instruction was presented in an interesting and entertaining, albeit systematic manner.
These two National groups are proving what I as an educator with 35 years experience have known for years. Little children are like sponges when it comes to learning. The more we challenge them now, the more they absorb and the better prepared they are for elementary school.

LILLPUT SECURITY
Due to the nature of our society, Lilliput will keep all our doors locked when children are here. If you need to come into the school after or before arrival and dismissal times, please use the front RED Door and ring the bell. For the afterschool program, use the GREEN door.
If you arrive late, and there is not a teacher outside, you will need to park your car and bring your child in. The doors are heavy and the children cannot open them or reach the bell. You must make sure a teacher takes your child before you leave.
NEVER LEAVE YOUR CHILD TO ENTER THE SCHOOL ALONE. I mention this as this has happened many times in the past. I have found children unattended and crying on our porch or in the halls!

LILLIPUT FUNDRAISERS
During the year, Lilliput will have several fundraisers. We hold fund raisers because with the ownership of this building, we have continual repairs and maintenance costs that are expected and sometimes unexpected.
We set our rates in the fall, not knowing how fuel costs will be or what other events may affect our budget.
With the help of fundraisers in the past we were able to paint Lilliput 1, put in new floors upstairs and enlarge the Full day Kindergarten room 5 – just to name a few items.
This year we will put our fundraising efforts towards our fuel costs and purchasing new equipment. We expect this to be a difficult winter for fuel.
We will again participate in the Innisbrook Wrapping Paper fundraiser starting at the end of September. With this fundraiser the school earns 50% of the sales and for the past few years that has exceeded $4000.
We understand that some families have children at other schools doing Innisbrook. Perhaps you could sell a little for each school. Families and friends who are out of town can also take advantage of the Innisbrook fundraiser by visiting www.Innisbrook.com They should use school number 116272
Lilliput is registered at Target. Target donates 1% of purchases made with the Target Visa or guest card. You can register on line at: www.target.com/tcoe or stop by the Kiosk at your favorite Target store. I just received a check for $88 from Target, thanks to the kind families who have registered.
Lilliput is also registered at Price Chopper. Every time you buy groceries and use your Advantage card, Lilliput will get points if you register us as your school. You can register on line at: www.pricechopper.com with our school number….39652. The points we earn can be redeemed towards toys and school equipment.
We do not expect parents to participate in all of our fundraisers, but we hope that you can help us by participating in at least one of them. With your support, we will work towards keeping our school warm and beautiful. In advance, we thank you for any support that you can give us.

SEE SAW BOOK CLUB
Each month Lilliput will send home a book order form. This is an optional program for parents but a good way to purchase books inexpensively and to help your child develop a home library and a love for books.
For every dollar parents spend on books, Lilliput receives a point that can be redeemed for books etc. Over the past few years we have received free from this program: computers, software, books, video cameras, still cameras, scanner, printers, radio players, etc.
This year we are working towards replacing some of our older computers, ad purchasing new CD players for each classroom. All items are free for us with the bonus points.
If you choose to participate, simply fill out the book order form that comes home each month and enclose a check made to “Scholastic Books” for the total amount. Send this to your child’s teacher in an envelope marked “Books” Your child’s teacher will give you the books in approximately 2 weeks.

HOW DOES OUR EXTENDED DAY WORK?
back

HOW DOES OUR EXTENDED
DAY WORK?
Lilliput has extended day three times a day:
- Mornings 8:00-9:00
- Lunch 11:15-12:30
- After School 2:00-3:00 3:00-4:00 4:00-5:00
Parents are welcome to use our extended day on a regular basis or on an occasional basis. The charge is $7.00 per hour or any part of the hour.
Parents must sign the extended day form, available on line at: www.Lilliputschool.com with the days you plan to use this service, or you can fill it out with the words “as needed” if you plan to use it only occasionally.
If you plan to use this service regularly, one note at the beginning of the year with the times and days on it will suffice.
If you are planning to use this service occasionally, just send a note on the day you will use it.
If you are late to pick up your child, (we can all have days when we are detained unexpectedly) the teacher will wait until there are no more cars in the pick up line. Then your child will be placed in extended day and you will be charged $7.00 for any part of the hour.
We use extended day this way because teachers have a very short lunch period and if they are waiting too long on the porch they loose their lunch time and that is not fair to them. Many of our teachers have appointments or children to get home to after school and that also causes problems if they have late parents.
If every parent in a class of 16 was late just once a month, the poor teacher would be late for their children or have a short lunch almost every day.
By having the extended day room, you have the comfort of knowing your child will be cared for and you are not inconveniencing anyone. We hope the $7.00 fee is worth this security.
We hope you will find this service a nice convenience.
Thank you.

ABITIBI RECYCLING
Lilliput would like to do its part in helping the environment by recycling paper. We have so many catalogs and paper scraps that it was a shame to just put them in the dumpster. So we have contracted with ABITIBI RECYCLING to have a dumpster on site to collect paper. (Right by our driveway exit)
Parents are welcome to put in your used newspapers, magazines, paper grocery bags, and single sheets of paper to help us recycle. All paper must be clean, dry and free of foreign objects such as plastic, twine and metal. This recycling bin is for paper only. Tell your friends, they can use it too. Even businesses who want to get rid of paper can use it. The more we collect the better.
ABITIBI will even pay us for each load they pick up!!! Although it is a small amount, $6 per ton, we are happy to be recycling. Thank you.
