Dear Parents

Dear Parents,

Welcome once again to Lilliput School. We hope you are looking forward to an exciting fall. I know I am

! Lilliput is happy to distribute T-Shirts to all our students this year as 2010 will be our 25th year educating young children. Our school colors of red, white and black will be evident in many places as you visit us this year. See if you can spot them.

We welcome parent Nicole Falcon a former Lilliput student herself who will be sending her daughter to Lilliput Kindergarten this year. How fast time flies!!!! Welcome back Nicole!

corrine sullivanThis year we are happy to report all our teachers are returning again. We have one new staff member with the addition of our new business manager, my daughter Corinne Sullivan. Corinne has 10 years experience working at Lilliput and at other early childhood centers as a lead teacher. She is also director certified as well as having a degree in Business Management. I am thrilled to have the extra help as no matter how many hours I put in I am never done!

As we start another year, I want to remind you that you are always welcome to drop in or call whenever you have a need. Communication between home and school is one of our top priorities.

WANT TO CONTACT ME?
Anytime you have a question or concern please feel free to contact me. I do visit each classroom every day so if no one answers the phone, leave a message and I will get back to you. You can also contact me via e-mail. I do check it several times a day. My email address is: LilliputECC@verizon.net I am always eager to answer your questions or hear your concerns. One way to make our school better is to listen to the needs of our parents. I am always trying to improve on what we offer and what we do. So if you have some ideas, send me an e-mail or call.

We have our own web site where you can get information, school forms and ideas. You can read our newsletters on line too. Take a peek and let us know what else you would like to see on this site.

Thank you
Linda

WE TRY TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR
Due to the fact that Lilliput borders a residential neighborhood, we try our best not to annoy our neighbors. You can help by remembering the following:
  • If you park on Wesleyan Street and walk to Lilliput, don’t cut through the neighbors’ yards.
  • Help us keep our lines short by following the drop off schedule handed out at Open House
  • If you need to conference with your child’s teacher, please call to schedule an appointment rather than trying to conference in the car lines.

We appreciate your thoughtfulness! .

WHY LILLIPUT IS ACADEMICALLY ORIENTED
The National Center for Educational Statistics reported from its longitudinal study of 22,000 children, that youngsters who attended more academically oriented preschool programs had significantly higher scores in reading, math and general knowledge when tested in the fall of their kindergarten year than children attending less academically oriented preschools.

Also, the National Reading Panel found that children as young as four benefited from instruction in phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle when the instruction was presented in an interesting and entertaining, albeit systematic manner.

These two National groups are proving what I as an educator with 35 years experience have known for years. Little children are like sponges when it comes to learning. The more we challenge them now, the more they absorb and the better prepared they are for elementary school.

LILLPUT SECURITY
Due to the nature of our society, Lilliput will keep all our doors locked when children are here. If you need to come into the school after or before arrival and dismissal times, please use the front RED Door and ring the bell. For the afterschool program, use the GREEN door.

If you arrive late, and there is not a teacher outside, you will need to park your car and bring your child in. The doors are heavy and the children cannot open them or reach the bell. You must make sure a teacher takes your child before you leave.

NEVER LEAVE YOUR CHILD TO ENTER THE SCHOOL ALONE. I mention this as this has happened many times in the past. I have found children unattended and crying on our porch or in the halls!

LILLIPUT FUNDRAISERS
During the year, Lilliput will have several fundraisers. We hold fund raisers because with the ownership of this building, we have continual repairs and maintenance costs that are expected and sometimes unexpected.

We set our rates in the fall, not knowing how fuel costs will be or what other events may affect our budget.

With the help of fundraisers in the past we w
